Some of our History:

Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department was founded on April 14 1975, with only 6 members.  The fire station was built with one single bay and still stands at its original location.  The first Fire Chief of the department was Harold Stubblefield.  The Texas Forest Service loaned the department the truck "White Elephant"  A few years later, the department got a 1946 Dodge Pumper the firemen called "Big Red".

Currently the station has 4 truck bays and has added on a meeting room area and offices.

We now operate with the following trucks:

 E-20, a Ford F800 midi-pumper - joined fleet in 2001

Wildcat, a Class-A Pumper - joined fleet in 1985 - purchased in Missouri - Out of Service

Tanker 8, a Freighliner Tanker/Pumper combo -  joined fleet in 1999

Tanker 1, a duece and a half Keyser Service Truck on loan from The Texas Forestry Service - joined fleet in 2007

Brush 1, an F450 Brush truck - joined fleet in 2004

a 21-foot Sea-Pro Rescue Boat with a 200 Mercury - joined fleet in 1999

and a Chevrolet Rescue Truck which is currently out of commission pending repairs or replacement - joined fleet in 1986

In 2009, the department purchased E-27, more details to come!

In 2008, a Crawfish boiling system was constructed by many of the firemen, it sits behind the station and is for the Annual Crawfish Boil & Fish Fry.

Also in 2008, a large propane cooker system was constructed by Chief Donald Marlow for cooking foods for the Crawfish Boil and the BBQ which are both held every year.

The Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;

Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child before it is too late

Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,

And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,

To guard my every neighbor and protect his property.

And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;

Please bless with your protecting hand

my children and my wife. Author Unknown
